Representatives of the city of Fürth placed Rauh`s design at the top of their list whilst the bids for the projekt were being collected. The artist has also contributet works to the look of Nuremberg railway station.
Fürther Nachrichten, 29th June 2007
Colourful artwork made from 800.000 individual pieces - mosaic expert has created a large mural for the Jakobinenstraße underground station.
Fürth - The applause even drowns out the noise of the train pulling into the station. Calls of "Super!" and "Well done!" come from the 100-odd guests standing in the draughty lobby floor of the Jakobinenstraße underground station as the approximately 30 square meter work of art is unveiled before their eyes.
This project arose from a call for projekt bids issued by the Infra Fürth`s transportation division. "We wanted to give the city a present for its 1,000th birthday", explains Hans Partheimüller, CEO of Infra. The supervisory board discussed four different drafts, out of which Iris Rauh`s design emerged as the clear winner.
My method of mosaic-laying resembles a jigsaw-puzzle. I break the stones, tiles, marble, glass etc. in random order, then put them together in a pattern that allows each individual to see something different.
Irrespective of where it is applied, the artistic creation remains the same; this is what determines whether a work of timeless beauty and lasting value is produced. This, after all, gives years of pleasure. Even furniture can be made with mosaic.
